There are also lessons for dealing with colloquial phrases widely used in everyday life, and difficult to understand without an explanation of translation or context.

For greater impact and understanding in the right moment there are also lessons in profanity and more commonly used slang words.

I met Mariana when I needed a private teacher a few years ago. I had been planning to explore Mexico for a few years and wanted to be able to talk to the local people rather than order a coffee or ask questions about the menu at a restaurant. By the time I received my first classes with Mariana, I could barely ask for directions or get basic information on hotels and food places in Mexico. Mariana has a very interactive and practical way of teaching. Every time she had a lesson, she would help me get out of my shyness to speak the language that I was determined to learn (Spanish) but that she couldn't use correctly. Her teaching methods were based on real life situations and were geared towards improving grammar and vocabulary. She often suggested fun activities (but not "kid stuff") and we often went outside the classroom to teach situations. With her I went to visit museums/libraries/churches, I went shopping in local boutiques and, since I am a photographer, she agreed to help me develop the vocabulary necessary to work with models in Spanish. I can only recommend Mariana as a teacher. With her I far exceeded the expectations I had set myself.
